Casale sul Sile was first settled during the Bronze Age and went on to attain considerable importance during Roman times as the conduit between the Venetian lagoon and northern Europe.

Since its earliest days, the history of Casale has been dependent on its relationship to the river that runs through it.

For centuries, boatmen would take the peasants back and forward from one side of the river to the other - these days it is the tourists who float along the Sile to visit the Venetian lagoon.
